The Witness
The Witness
“Defense, please call your next witness.”
“Your honor, I call Baljeet to the stand.”
Baljeet climbed into the witness stand and went through the normal swearing in process.
“Now tell us what you witnessed that day, sir” his lawyer instructed.
“There was a bright light shooting through the sky like an arrow. It landed in the forest, not too far from where I live. So I decided to investigate. It was dark out, so I grabbed my flashlight and headed into the trees. Not too far in, it started getting lighter. There seemed to be a bright light emanating from a cabin in the distance, so bright it was like daytime even though it was near midnight. As I got closer, I could hear this buzzing, like a bee. No, more like a hundred bees. It was loud. There was this giant hole in the cabin’s roof with light just pouring out. I tried to look in the windows but all the curtains were closed so I tried the keyhole in the front door. It was one of those old locks you see in movies that you can see straight through, you see.” He paused, looking at his lawyer.
The lawyer nodded his head in approval while the jury leaned forward to catch every word.
“Well, I looked into that little hole and saw what I can only describe as a, well it must have been, a fallen star. I knocked on the door, but nobody answered. I was afraid that whoever lived there may have been squished by the impact so I did the only thing I could think of. The door was locked, so I grabbed a credit card out of my wallet and slid it into the door jam, like you see in the movies, and sure enough, that old lock gave way and I opened the door.”
“So you were breaking-and-entering?”
“No, well I suppose so, but you see-“
“Justice will be severed! He just sank himself!” the prosecutor thought excitedly to himself as he listened to the witness stumble over himself for the next few minutes.
